High-Quality, High-Value Health Care

Are We There Yet?

On November 9, 2009, Foundation President and CEO Risa Lavizzo-Mourey, MD, MBA, delivered the lunchtime keynote address before the National Business Coalition on Health 14th annual conference in Phoenix, Ariz. The subject of her address was: "High-quality, high-value health care: “Are we there yet?”

The destination, Lavizzo-Mourey suggested, is clear. "Our destination," she said, "is a place where everyone—not just those of us in the room—works towards high-quality, high-value health care. It’s a place, somewhere in the future, where many more Americans get the care they need, delivered in smart and effective ways, at a price tag that all of us can live with.

"It’s a place, simply put, where we raise the bar on the quality and value of health care… and then continue raising the bar over and over again. "

The answer to that eternal question, however,is also clear: We are not there yet. In fact, says Lavizzo-Mourey, we have a long way to go.
