Coverage is Not Enough

Lessons From the Covering Kids & Families® (CKF) Access Initiative

This report highlights case studies of five of the 18 Covering Kids & Families® (CKF)-Access Initiative (CKF-AI) grantees in late 2007. As part of the Covering Kids & Families® (CKF) Evaluation, and conducted by The Urban Institute, the CKF-AI was a two-year grant program that directed $4 million to local projects to enable them to diagnose and address barriers to access for children and families enrolled in Medicaid and the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). The case studies found that projects succeeded in addressing a wide range of access barriers by implementing creative, focused strategies.
