The American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) received a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) in March 2007 for the development of two required documents for the creation of clinical informatics as a medical subspecialty. Two AMIA board-endorsed teams worked to created the documents needed: Core Content and Program Training Requirements. Both documents were approved by the AMIA board in November 2008.
This paper examines both the context and purpose of the documents, as well as their role in AMIA’s structure.
