Core Content for the Subspecialty of Clinical Informatics
This article discusses the Core Content for Clinical Informatics document designed by the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) through a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation grant. The AMIA board approved the document in November 2008.
Clinical informatics both creates and examines information and communication systems that impact health and health care. Clinical informaticians must successfully navigate clinical care, the health system and information and communications technology.
The Core Content for Clinical Informatics document outlines four major areas of knowledge and understanding: common vocabulary and environmental understanding; clinical systems; information systems; and management skills to lead through system changes.
