Field of Work: Reducing social isolation in a low-income community
Synopsis of the Work: In this initiative, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation supported Shreveport-Bossier Community Renewal to reduce social isolation in distressed areas of Shreveport, La., and adjacent Bossier City and to disseminate its model of renewal to other cities. Shreveport-Bossier Community Renewal is a faith-based, non-profit organization in Shreveport.
Story Told: Shreveport resident Stacy Davis is studying to earn his General Educational Development (GED) certificate and is learning "life skills" such as interviewing for a job and good health practices at the Cedar Grove neighborhood's Adult Renewal Academy. "I'm planning for a better future," says Davis. This sidebar describes his experiences at the Adult Renewal Academy.
