Synopsis of the Work: After School: Connecting Children at Risk With Responsible Adults to Help Reduce Youth Substance Abuse and Other Health-Compromising Behaviors was a national program of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation that helped develop intermediary organizations in Boston, Chicago, and the San Francisco Bay Area in order to create citywide systems of after-school programs.
Story Told: Boston's Young Achievers Science and Mathematics Pilot School provides enrichment programs for struggling elementary school students: Surround Care before and after school, Enrichment Club during the school day, and Saturday Academy. With funding from After School, the school started Partners for Student Success, which expanded the services provided within the enrichment programs and the number of children served.
