Governors and Their Policy Staff Learn Best Practices for Meeting Health and Social Needs of Aging Population

Developing strategies to address the challenges of America's aging population

The National Governors Association Center for Best Practices created the Aging Initiative to help governors and their policy staffs respond to the needs of America's aging population. From 2002 to 2006, project staff shared best practices through publications and provided technical assistance on aging to states.

Key Results

Project staff reported the following results to the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF):

  • Ran a policy academy for eight states called Rebalancing Long-Term Care Systems Toward Quality Community Living and Healthy Aging. (A policy academy is an intensive workshop to help state policymakers develop action plans for large-scale policy initiatives. It is one type of technical assistance from the Center for Best Practices.)
  • Produced a data book on state aging trends and indicators and three issue briefs and one fact sheet on various topics related to aging.
  • Provided technical assistance to 14 states via site visits, research and memos.

Funding

RWJF supported this project with a grant of $623,881 from 2002 to 2006.
