2006 International Conference Identifies Strategies for Addressing the Obesity Epidemic

Support for the 2006 annual conference of the International Society of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity

The International Society of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity convened its 2006 annual meeting in Boston, July 13–16, 2006.

Key Results

  • More than 325 people attended the meeting, including researchers and students from the United States and overseas.

  • The meeting featured a keynote presentation, "Addressing the Obesity Epidemic," by James O. Hill, PhD, director of the Center for Human Nutrition at the University of Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center. In his presentation, Hill outlined a strategy for addressing obesity that involves:

    • Setting specific weight goals.
    • Establishing specific behavioral goals.
    • Addressing environmental change to support and sustain behavior change.
