Since 1997, RWJF has invested nearly $150 million on the Covering Kids Initiative (CKI) and Covering Kids & Families® (CKF), making it one of the Foundation's largest projects. CKI aimed to increase enrollment of eligible children into public health insurance programs. CKF expanded this effort to include low-income adults.
Since August 2002, Mathematica Policy Research, Inc. and its partners the Urban Institute and Health Management Associates have undertaken an evaluation to determine the impact of the Foundation's investment as well as to study factors that may have contributed to, or impaired, CKF's efforts. The evaluation continued through April 2008.
