Mayo Clinic - Rochester, MN
Left Without Being Seen (LWBS) Rate and Throughput Improvement
The hospital implemented a multi-pronged approach for reducing the left without being seen (LWBS) rate and overall patient throughput. The hospital identified the causes of LWBS with a patient survey and then implemented solutions based on this feedback.
To further address throughput, the hospital developed a web based length of stay dashboard, implemented the use of pagers in the emergency department (ED), employed more swing beds, and data analysis to reduce the number of non-urgent patients presenting at the ED.
