Income a Factor for Mammography Screening of U.S. Women But Not Canadian
Comparing trends in breast and cervical cancer screening in the U.S. and Canada
From 2001 to 2002, researchers from the University of Michigan School of Medicine conducted a 10-year follow-up study of trends in the use of breast cancer screening in the United States and Ontario, Canada, which was begun in 1990.
Key Findings
- Women in the United States are more likely to get a mammogram the greater their household income, but the link between mammography screening and income does not hold for Canadian women.
- Mammography screening rates in 1998 were higher in the United States than in Canada.
- In the United States, uninsured women were less likely than insured women to have had an annual screening mammogram.
