Millions of TV Viewers Learn about End-of-Life Issues from "ER"
Public education around broadcast of ER episode on end-of-life care
The May 4, 2000, episode of "ER" on NBC contained a story line involving Dr. Greene's father's peaceful death while in hospice care at home. An October 19, 2000, episode of "ER" focused on the importance of having advance directives in place.
The project was part of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's (RWJF) national program Targeted End-of-Life Projects Initiative.
Key Results: Some 26 million viewers saw the "ER" episode involving the death of Dr. Greene's father. The project director says that promotions of the "ER" episodes reached "millions of people" via TV and telefilms.
