Delaware Holds 2004 Conference and Launches Task Force to Address Racial/Ethnic Disparities in Health Care

Support for a conference to address racial disparities in health care in Delaware

The Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League and the Office of Delaware's Lieutenant Governor co-sponsored a statewide Minority Health Disparity Conference in November 2004 to build awareness of health disparities between whites and racial/ethnic minorities in Delaware; and to promote best practices for addressing those disparities.

Key Results:

  • Following the conference, Delaware Governor Ruth Ann Minner created a Racial and Ethnic Disparities Task Force, co-chaired by the lieutenant governor and the chief executive officer of the Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League, to develop a strategic minority health plan for Delaware.
  • The Urban League plans to convene an in-house advisory council to address health disparities and track the progress of the task force. It also is developing a written policy agenda addressing education, health and economic opportunities to mobilize and educate the community about health disparities.
