Friends of the Community Path, a Somerville, Mass., citizens' group, helped raise funds to design a new 2.5-mile extension of a bicycle and pedestrian pathway that, when completed, will connect a popular commuter bikeway to downtown Boston.
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) provided a grant of $10,000 to support the design effort. The City of Somerville received a $50,000 grant from the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority and provided an additional $25,000 to cover the cost of the design. Groundwork Somerville, a community environmental organization, served as fiscal agent for Friends of the Community Path.
