Good Employee Health Coverage is Good Business, Economic Research Group Says

Disseminating recommendations on business and government actions to support employer-based health coverage

From 2000 to 2004, the Committee for Economic Development disseminated findings from its 2002 policy statement, A New Vision for Health Care: A Leadership Role for Business, which was addressed to the U.S. business community, policy-makers and health care leaders.

The Committee for Economic Development is a nonpartisan, nonprofit business-led research organization with 200 trustees who represent some of the country's largest business and educational institutions.

Key Results
To disseminate recommendations from the 2002 policy statement A New Vision for Health Care: A Leadership Role for Business, project's staff members:

  • In October 2002, co-hosted a town hall forum in San Francisco, with more than 100 people in attendance.
  • Hosted a second forum in Boston on March 13, 2003, in conjunction with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's (RWJF) 2003 Cover the Uninsured Week; more than 65 people attended.
  • Established a Human Resources Advisory Council to keep the issue of expanding health care coverage at the forefront of major U.S. companies' agendas.
  • Distributed the 2002 policy statement and the keynote speech from the first forum (by former Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber, M.D.) to approximately 5,000 business leaders, academic and community leaders, government officials and policy-makers.
