In 2004, Kaiser Permanente and Epic Systems Corporation held a conference to explore ways to integrate nursing performance measures into an electronic health record.
Kaiser Permanente is a nonprofit health plan serving the health care needs of members in nine states and the District of Columbia. Epic Systems Corporation is a provider of health care management software that integrates financial and clinical information across inpatient, ambulatory and payer technology systems.
The two companies had previously developed an electronic health record for Kaiser Permanente's approximately 8 million members. Its purpose was to provide clinicians, nurses and other care providers with real-time patient information and decision-making tools to support best practices and outcomes.
