Harvard Summer Program Preps American Indians for College
Native American high school summer science program
In June–July of 2003, the Native American High School Summer Programs at Harvard Medical School brought Native American students and teachers to Harvard for a three-week program.
The program aims to increase the probability that the students will go on to college and health professions training in leading institutions.
Key Results
The project achieved results in the following areas:
- Twenty juniors and seniors from Hopi High School in north central Arizona and the Fort Peck/Sioux Reservation in Montana attended the program.
- They participated in lectures, visited clinics, laboratories and other facilities, conducted research for a final project, and prepared, rehearsed and delivered PowerPoint presentations on their topics to students and faculty.
Funding
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) provided $25,000 in funding for the project from June 2003 to September 2003.
