New Professional Association Formed for Chiefs of Internal Medicine

Training internal medicine division chiefs for programmatic leadership

In 2001, the Society of General Internal Medicine created the Association of Chiefs of General Internal Medicine to provide internal medicine division chiefs in the nation's medical schools and teaching hospitals with new opportunities for professional development and leadership training.

Key Results

Under the grant, the Association accomplished the following:

  • Held two one-day management institutes, attended by 24 and 28 division chiefs respectively.
  • Developed resources for its membership, including:
    • A Web site.
    • A monthly online newsletter, Chiefs' Alert.
    • An e-mail listserv.

Funding

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) supported the project with a two-year grant of $50,000 beginning in January 2001.
