New York Medical College, the largest private medical school in the United States, increased the percentage of graduates entering primary care careers from 1992 to 2001.
This project was part of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's (RWJF) national program Generalist Physician Initiative.
Key Results: The college accomplished the following under the grant funding:
By 2000, the College projected that 33 percent of all of its students would enter primary care careers based on their residency selections—up from 17.5 percent at the start of the project.
