"Virtual House" Warns Parents About Household Toxin Risks to Children

Creating a website to increase public awareness of children's vulnerability to environmental toxins

In 2000 and 2001, the Children's Health Environmental Coalition, Princeton, N.J., created a conceptual prototype design for a Web-based "virtual house," called HealtheHouse, to inform parents about environmental health risks to their children in the home.

Key Results:

  • HealtheHouse allows parents to view environmental hazards commonly found in different rooms, and provides both specific information on hazards and advice on how to minimize risks to their children. The coalition's Science Advisory Board reviewed all content on the site.
