Technical Assistance from Partners in Caregiving Program Helps New Massachusetts Adult Day Care Center Triple Its Enrollment
Partners in Caregiving: The Dementia Services Program
In 1993, Spectrum II Adult Day Center (now called Spectrum at the Hunt Center) in Beverly, Mass., expanded its schedule from three to six days a week, and over the next three years nearly tripled its enrollment (from 13 to 37), becoming profitable in the process.
The project was part of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) Partners in Caregiving: The Dementia Services Program national program.
Key Results:
- In spring 1993, the center opened on Mondays, and in August 1993, it began offering care six days a week, Monday through Saturday.
- Enrollment almost tripled (from 13 to 37) and average daily attendance more than doubled (from nine to 21.4).
- Net operating revenue, at 95 percent of cash expenses initially, by 1996 exceeded cash expenses by 54 percent (e.g., financial performance was at 156%).
