Partners in Caregiving: The Dementia Services Program
From 1993 to 1996, staff at Mercer Medical Center's Adult Day Center availed itself of the technical assistance services offered by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) Partners in Caregiving: The Dementia Services Program national program to broaden its base of services and attain financial self-sufficiency.
Key Results:
- In 1994, the center relocated to a larger, more attractive facility on the campus of its parent organization, an acute care hospital, and converted to dementia-specific care.
- The center raised its fees to reflect true costs, separated its service into different tracks suited to its clients' levels of dementia, began offering Saturday care, and added several ancillary services.
- As a result of new marketing efforts, daily attendance at the center grew from 16 to about 21.
- Initially operating at a 28 percent deficit of cash expenses over operating revenue, the center reversed its financial situation during the grant period, showing a 49 percent surplus of operating revenue over cash expenses.
