Nurses Plot Their Own Course, for a Change
Nurse Executive Leadership Conference
The Harvard Nursing Research Institute, based at the Harvard School of Public Health, sponsored two leadership conferences in 1996 and 1997 for senior nurse executives from teaching hospitals and academic health centers.
Key Results
- Some 100 nurse executives attended each conference.
- The Institute created a conference report each year and sent it to all attendees.
- The Journal of Nursing Administration published the 1996 conference report.
- The project increased the visibility of a national program of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), Colleagues in Caring: Regional Collaboratives for Nursing Work Force Development, which was first announced to nurse leaders at the 1996 conference. That project seeks to develop new models of nursing, which could be replicated by nursing leaders who attended these conferences.
Funding
RWJF provided two grants totaling $48,629 from March 1996 to February 1998 to support the project.
