Integrating Buprenorphine Treatment into Office-Based Practice

Qualitative interviews with physicians revealed several barriers to the use of buprenorphine maintenance treatment (BMT) for opioid addiction. Addressing these barriers will help ensure that BMT becomes more common in clinical practice, thus alleviating the shortage of slots in BMT programs.

Buprenorphine/Naloxone Treatment in Primary Care is Associated with Decreased Human Immunodeficiency Virus Risk Behaviors

Participation in a primary care buprenorphine/naloxone treatment program was associated with decreased HIV-risk behaviors. Although general counseling was provided in the program, counseling aimed specifically at HIV risk behaviors would probably be of benefit in further reducing such behaviors.
