The Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP) is a free summer enrichment program focused on improving access to information and resources for college students interested in the health professions  and prepare them for a successful application and matriculation to health professions schools.  

SHPEP may be a good fit for you if: 

• You're a college freshman or sophomore at the time of application
• You have an overall GPA of 2.5 or higher
• You're a U.S. citizen, a permanent resident, or an individual granted deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA) status by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services
• You have not previously participated in this program

Other factors for consideration:

• Preference given to students who identify with a group that is racially/ethnically underrepresented in the health professions; and/or
• Comes from an economically or educationally disadvantaged background; and/or
• Has demonstrated an interest in issues affecting underserved populations.

Each program site provides scholars with academic enrichment in the basic sciences and math, clinical experiences, career development activities, learning and study skills seminars, and a financial planning workshop. Program sites vary on how they deliver each of these required components and their program start date.

• Program is approximately six weeks in duration.
• SHPEP occurs during May through August, depending on the site chosen.

1. The online SHPEP Application. An AAMC account is required to access the application. Register for an AAMC account only if you do not already have one.
2. One official transcript from every US, US Territorial, or Canadian post-secondary institution attended sent directly by the institution’s registrar’s office. Please review the Transcript Requirements section for more information.
