Local parks offer an accessible option for physical activity and support of healthy living. This study investigated the relationship between peoples’ perceptions of local recreational parks, and their overall physical activity and body mass index.
Self-administered questionnaires were mailed to households in Kansas City, Mo. residing within a half mile of parks dispersed throughout the geographical area. A total of 893 surveys were completed and returned.
Strengthening the awareness of the benefits of local parks is a useful option to successfully promoting physical activity and health.
