Developing a health information management system for New Orleans' coordinated school-based health centers

Problem Synopsis: Hurricane Katrina left a diminished primary care capacity for children in Greater New Orleans. To improve primary care for these children, school-based health centers with integrated electronic medical record and practice management systems needed to be developed.

Synopsis of the Work: The School Health Connection of the Louisiana Public Health Institute developed an electronic health information management system for new school-based health centers in Greater New Orleans.

Key Results

The Louisiana Public Health Institute through its School Health Connection procured, instituted and maintained an integrated electronic medical record system at 10 school-based health centers. Clinic staff created more than 10,500 patient records and electronically documented more than 50,000 patient visits.
