County Health Rankings

Risa Lavizzo-Mourey, M.D., M.B.A., president and CEO of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, kicked off the inaugural release of the County Health Rankings—a collection of reports that for the first time ranks the overall health of nearly every county in all 50 states.

Lavizzo-Mourey's opening message framed the discussion for the launch event, held in Washington, D.C., which drew more than 200 national leaders from the public and private sectors and many more watching from around the country via webcast. Lavizzo-Mourey was joined by David Williams, former staff director of the RWJF Commission to Build a Healthier America, study authors from the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute and representatives from the business, education and public health sectors.

All agreed that the Rankings should be a call to action for local leaders to identify health problems they need to address and collectively take steps to promote policy changes that help people lead healthier lives.
