"Leadership Trenton," is a monthly leadership development seminar series designed to train a new cadre of civic leaders for the city of Trenton, the New Jersey state capital.
The Watson Institute for Public Policy, Thomas A. Edison State College, Trenton sponsored 10 monthly Leadership Trenton seminars for 36 participants in 2002.
Fellows attended monthly seminars, which included site visits to schools, city development projects and government offices. Case studies and simulations examined how to create a strong health care delivery system and how city services would enable a family of limited means to survive in a crisis. Seminars covered:
Additional skill-building sessions covered: budget analysis, conflict resolution, public speaking, media relations and board member development.
At the completion of the project, staff members conducted oral and written evaluations of the graduating fellows. Project staff concluded that the group is coalescing into a cohesive network of civic leaders.
