In 2001, the Society of General Internal Medicine created the Association of Chiefs of General Internal Medicine to provide internal medicine division chiefs in the nation's medical schools and teaching hospitals with new opportunities for professional development and leadership training.
Under the grant, the Association accomplished the following:
- Held two one-day management institutes, attended by 24 and 28 division chiefs respectively.
- Developed resources for its membership, including:
- A website.
- A monthly online newsletter, Chiefs' Alert.
- An e-mail listserv.
