In 2000, Security on Campus produced "Wasted Youth," a 15-minute video on the dangers of college binge drinking, geared toward high school juniors and seniors and incoming college freshmen.
The video is designed to increase awareness of how binge drinking affects students' safety. The video is available online.
Security on Campus is a public, nonprofit organization that works to prevent violence on college campuses.
- "Wasted Youth" features interviews with friends and family of two students who died from alcohol-related causes, a former binge drinker who killed five people in an alcohol-related crash, a rape crisis counselor and a doctor.
- It also presents statistics on the extent of the problem of alcohol abuse among youth.
- As of April 1, 2002, Security on Campus had distributed 11,000 free copies of the video (including 5,000 during the grant period).
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) provided partial support through a $25,477 grant to Security on Campus to produce, duplicate and distribute the video and a 30-second public service announcement on the same subject.
