During 1997 and 1998, the Georgia Health Policy Center (HPC), based in the School of Policy Studies at Georgia State University, conducted planning activities for its State Children's Health Insurance Program, called PeachCare for Kids.
The project was part of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) Healthy Kids Replication Program national program.
The Georgia Health Policy Center and the Georgia Department of Medical Assistance finalized the program's design. Implemented statewide in December 1998, the program provides substantially the same benefits as Medicaid, including:
Monthly premiums range from $0 to $15, with no premium for children aged birth to five, $7.50 a month for one child aged six to 18, and $15 a month for two or more children aged six to 18. There are no co-payments or deductibles.
