Creation of the Institute for Professional Health Staff Development

The National Conference of State Legislatures created the Institute for Professional Health Staff Development.

The Institute conducts annual seven-day conferences to educate professional state legislative staff members on the basics of health policy.

Key Results

The key accomplishments under the grant reported to the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) include the following:

  • Under a subcontract, the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill developed the curriculum for the Institute.
  • In collaboration with UNC, the Institute conducted the first two annual seminars in 1999 and 2000.
  • Project staff produced a resource guide for participants.


RWJF provided $229,684 in funding from January 1999 to September 2002 to support the project.
