Beth Israel Hospital Association developed Passaic Asthma Reduction Effort (PARE!). PARE! assessed the incidence of asthma in the city of Passaic and developed an asthma management plan focused on the city's Hispanic population.
From late summer of 1997 through 1998, project staff conducted an aggressive marketing campaign, surveyed third graders and their parents about the children's symptoms and provided asthma screenings through spirometry readings.
The project was part of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) New Jersey Health Initiatives national program (for more information see Program Results).
