Developing research briefs on social and emotional development to support translation of evidence into action
The Foundation's initiative, Research to Build the Evidence Base and Shape Frameworks to Support Vulnerable Children and Families, was designedto fund research grants that will address topics in: (1) intervention and systems research, to fill evidence gaps related to investing in young children, families, and their communities; (2) translation of research evidence, to advance a unified movement about what works; and (3) systems evaluation, to examine and track the network and movement-building activities of the Foundation's Strengthening Vulnerable Children and Families Portfolio.Through this grant, researchers will prepare a series of brief reports that summarize the current research and identify practice and policy implications in the general area of social and emotional development. Briefs will cover topics including: (1) early support for parent engagement and its effects on child outcomes; and (2) social and emotional learning in infancy/toddlerhood, the preschool years, the elementary school period, and the middle and high school periods. Other topics will include facilitating the social and emotional competence of teachers, and the effects of early self-regulation on later life outcomes. Deliverables will include preparation of 10 written briefs (print and Web-ready versions), along with video media supplements, and two national meetings focused on these topics.
