Developing measurements for assessing the Choosing Wisely campaign in reducing waste in the U.S. health care system
This project is for the first wave of an evaluation of the campaign to raise awareness of the American Board of Internal Medicine's Choosing Wisely initiative. The campaign consists of activities undertaken by a group of medical societies and regional alliances ("sub-grantees") that are designed to raise awareness of Choosing Wisely, an initiative to promote conversations between physicians and patients to ensure that care is necessary, not duplicative, and safe. For this wave of the evaluation, GfK Custom Research LLC will conduct surveys of health care professionals in the geographical areas that correspond to the sub-grantees in the Choosing Wisely campaign. Additionally, the contractor will conduct a survey of a nationally representative population of adults with an oversample in each of the geographic regions of interest. The surveys are designed to measure baseline awareness of medical overuse and of the Choosing Wisely awareness campaign among providers and consumers. The second wave of this evaluation, to be conducted as a renewal of this project, will measure awareness in these populations after the interventions by the sub-grantees. Deliverables will be: (1) Topline Report at completion of Wave 1 for both provider and consumer surveys; (2) Analysis and Final Report for both provider and consumer surveys (3) (PowerPoint) at completion of Wave 1, up to 40 pages with one round of revisions (4) Individual State Level Summary Report up to 10 pages for each of the six participating States for both provider and consumer surveys; (5) Web-based or in-person presentation of the results for provider and consumer surveys; (6) Final STATA or .txt public use data files with documentation for both provider and consumer surveys.
