Conducting a scan of new developments in how disparities are being conceptualized and reduced in health care

This project will provide a high-level environmental scan of the evolving field of racial and ethnic disparities in health care. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's Quality/Equality (Q/E) team has been committed to finding and promoting ways to reduce these disparities for almost a decade. The project will include background for a review of whether to expand the team's scope beyond race and ethnicity to address other disparities in health care quality. Activities will include an initial telephone discussion with the Q/E team, the Web-based scan of emerging perspectives/research, telephone interviews, and analysis. The project will also produce a high-level paper for a public audience, discussing evolution in the field of disparities, as well as a staff briefing. Marsha Gold, ScD, senior fellow at Mathematica Policy Research, will conduct the project over a four-month period.
