Supporting a conference to inform and engage consumer advocates on the problem of rising health care costs
This grant supports Consumers Union in planning a summit for consumer advocates about the problem of rising health care costs. In addition to the meeting itself, the project will include significant preparation and follow-up in order to frame the issue in a way that resonates with consumer advocates and to keep the groups that participate in the summit engaged in ongoing work related to health care costs. The deliverables include: (1) a framework for understanding the drivers of and remedies for escalating health care costs; (2) a briefing book that provides background on the topic and may include research specifically commissioned for this project; (3) a summit of one day or one and a half days for consumer groups on the topic of health care costs; (4) consumer-friendly issue briefs on those costs; and (5) immediate post-summit work to continue to engage the attendees. No legislators or legislative staff will attend the meeting, and no grassroots lobbying will take place. All activities under this grant will comply with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's prohibitions on lobbying activities.
