Providing a forum to study consolidation of the health care market

This grant supports the National Academy of Social Insurance in convening a multidisciplinary panel of 12 to 15 experts who will study consolidation of the market for health care providers and its effect on health care prices and spending. Provider consolidation is one of the most prominent trends in the U.S. health care system and an important driver of increased prices and health spending. The panel will make recommendations regarding how to avoid industry concentration, while not discouraging the benefits that may derive from creation of high-performing, integrated health systems.
