Advancing the accreditation process for the Houston Department of Health and Human Services

The Foundation's initiative, Advancing Accreditation in Large Jurisdictions, was designed to supply financial and technical assistance to big cities and states to catalyze application to the Public Health Accreditation Board for accreditation of their public health agencies. This grant will enable the city of Houston Health and Human Services Department to accelerate its readiness to submit a statement of intent (SOI) to apply for national accreditation by the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB). The objectives include: (1) to develop a centralized, systematic, database-driven accreditation documentation management system (ADMS), using a requirements-design process that will improve the review of identified documentation and standardize collaboration among users; (2) hire temporary staff to work with division teams to process and enter accreditation documentation within ADMS; (3) review the documentation entered into ADMS; and (4) make ADMS, together with a user manual, freely available to other health departments pursuing accreditation. The deliverables will be documentation of completion of the objectives and the submission of an SOI to apply for accreditation to PHAB by December 1, 2014.
