This grant supports the 2012 Summit on Healthy Living, hosted by Governing magazine. For 25 years, Governing has provided state and local policy leaders with the nonpartisan information, insight and intelligence needed to govern effectively. The magazine spotlights the people, issues and trends shaping management, policy and politics. This invitation-only summit, on December 11, in Atlanta, will bring together public- and private-sector thought leaders to engage in a dialogue focused on outcomes and best practices related to ways to work together to encourage healthy lifestyles, reduce health care costs, and improve the quality of life in communities. The audience will include a diverse range of local, state and federal officials; community activists; corporations; foundations; advocacy groups; and nonprofits. Government attendees will include state legislators, mayors, chiefs of staff, representatives of city and county councils, city managers, park authorities, school board members, police departments, regional representatives from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and health and human-services staff from every level of government. Because the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation is a sponsor, Governing will invite two Foundation representatives to attend the summit, and the Foundation may submit a "wish list" of attendees. The Foundation representatives will also participate in the summit's planning process and in summit activities as a speaker, panelist or moderator. The Foundation's logo will be on promotional materials, and the Foundation can submit case studies or information to be distributed with program materials to all summit attendees. Project staff will work closely with the Foundation and the Foundation's Public Health communications team to coordinate and complement dissemination of summit highlights. Governing will not use Foundation funds for lobbying.
