National Policy and Legal Analysis Network to Prevent Childhood Obesity, 2012-2014
The Foundation's program, National Policy and Legal Analysis Network for Childhood Obesity Prevention, was designed to support policy innovation and implementation aimed at preventing childhood obesity by empowering advocates, decision-makers and communities with technical assistance and resources. This grant supports the National Policy and Legal Analysis Network to Prevent Childhood Obesity (NPLAN) in its continuing efforts to help reverse the epidemic of childhood obesity by 2015. Reversing the epidemic requires public policies that promote healthy eating and active living. NPLAN supports policy innovation and implementation by empowering communities through non-lobbying legal technical assistance. NPLAN has four main objectives: delivering high-quality legal and policy technical assistance; developing trainings on legal and policy issues related to healthy eating and active living; supporting advocacy work with the advocacy hubs and other advocacy partners; and organizing convenings and additional support for the field, as needed. The program will also focus more of its efforts on working with the selected Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) advocacy hubs and their efforts. The grantee, ChangeLab Solutions (CLS), will not use RWJF funds for lobbying. CLS has budgeted funds in this grant to retain legal counsel to assist it in ensuring that all RWJF-funded activities comply with this restriction.
