Developing approaches for effective adoption and long-term sustainability of programs and practices that advance social and emotional learning

To accelerate high-quality implementation and sustainability of social and emotional learning (SEL) programs in schools, the Center for Health and Health Care in Schools (CHHCS) will serve as a resource center to develop tools and approaches to support these efforts in schools across the nation. Funding for this project will allow CHHCS to: (1) identify and describe elements of the organizational infrastructure of states and school districts that facilitate SEL programs; (2) identify policies and practices that can contribute to SEL implementation and sustainability; (3) identify opportunities for institutionalizing SEL programs within schools and governments; and (4) collaborate with the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning to use its Collaborating Districts Initiative, comprising eight large school districts, as a learning laboratory for the field. This work will allow CHHCS to develop a road map to identify state and federal revenue streams, regulatory opportunities and barriers, and opportunities to coordinate new SEL initiatives with existing resources. The beneficiaries of this work will include state education departments, school districts, policymakers, and other funders.
