Developing and implementing the infrastructure for a national Web-based geographic information system for childhood obesity prevention (Phase 2)

This grant provides technical assistance and training to more grantees to use the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) Childhood Obesity Prevention Geographic Information System (COGIS), as well as to lay the groundwork for an improved tool. COGIS is an online tool for mapping food and activity environments. RWJF grantees are the primary users of COGIS, and its link with multiple databases helps create informative depictions of where policy and environmental changes are needed. This information is useful for advocates, policymakers and others interested in promoting policy and environmental change. The specific deliverables will include ongoing maintenance of COGIS; trainings and workshops for RWJF grantees; and a design session for exploring development of an improved COGIS.
