Supporting a Foo 'unconference' to spark innovative ideas on health and health care, 2012
This funding will sponsor the second Health Foo Camp, a cross-discipline, immersive, informal "unconference" to amplify the work of the best and the brightest actors in the emerging technology and health care industries by catalyzing innovative thinking and collaboration. The format for the Foo Camp unconference was pioneered by O'Reilly Media, a leading technology publisher, conference organizer, and supporter of free-software and open-source movements (Foo stands for Friends of O'Reilly). At Foo Camp, attendees design the agenda on the spot, producing more brainstorming and group problem solving than formal presentations. This private, invitation-only meeting will bring together about 150 key players, including researchers, funders, health care executives, software developers, entrepreneurs, journalists, policy experts, thought leaders and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) staff. It will take place May 18-20, 2012, at the Microsoft NERD Center in Cambridge, Massachusetts. O'Reilly staff will work with RWJF to select invitees. After the unconference, O'Reilly staff will foster continued communications with participants, developing contacts for and new proposals to be submitted to RWJF, and encouraging the spread of ideas by attendees and, ultimately, innovative programs funded by RWJF.
