This project will support four one-day convenings with stakeholders that will result in a final report on New Mexico's American Indian communities and their disparities, challenges, readiness, capacity, and priorities related to reducing childhood obesity. The convening activities will include: (1) identifying the complexities of the current environment related to childhood obesity; (2) formulating a collective vision for community health; and (3) outlining advocacy activities that will support prevention and wellness opportunities for American Indian youths and families. Stakeholders will include tribal leaders, tribal program directors for youths and health, tribal school administrators and teachers, and American Indian nonprofits focused on health. The first three meetings will occur during the first half of 2012, and the last will be held in October 2012 to reveal the final report. The grantee will share the report with convening stakeholders, policymakers, funders and the media.
