Planning an evaluation of local adaptations in quality improvement efforts in medical care
Under this contract, quality improvement experts will develop a plan to evaluate local adaptations in medical care quality improvement (QI ). Local adaptations are important to the success of many QI efforts, yet they are seldom described in enough detail that they can be shared widely, compared systematically, or assessed for their potential to achieve QI aims in other organizations and patient groups. This contract will help the Foundation to identify prevalent and important local QI adaptations, which can then be evaluated formally for their impact on practice. The contractor will assess the feasibility of such an effort for a variety of QI networks, including a variety of Foundation programs, the Northern New England Cardiovascular Disease Study Group, Veterans Administration, Institute for Healthcare Improvement, and High Value Health Collaborative. The contractor will explore the feasibility of various measurement and data-collection strategies. The primary deliverables will be a full proposal to evaluate local adaptations on a variety of QI topics, a presentation on progress during a November 2011 meeting, and a presentation of findings to interested Foundation staff and grantees.
