Analyzing federal, state and local policies that hinder improving outcomes for young males of color
Under this project, the Center for Law and Social Policy (the Center) will conduct a policy analysis to identify specific policies and the policy landscape in health, education and employment that affect the overall health outcomes of boys and young men of color of middle school and high school age. This project's six key deliverables will be to: (1) conduct a preliminary scan of existing policy efforts, research and practice in the areas of health, education and employment; (2) conduct face-to-face roundtable discussions with national policy and advocacy organizations directly working in the specific policy areas; (3) conduct electronic and telephone surveys with state and local leaders and advocates and with youth-serving organizations; (4) conduct face-to-face focus groups with a mix of federal and local representatives to react to the knowledge that will come from the preliminary scan; (5) develop a summary paper of recommendations; and (6) produce four policy briefs.
