This grant supports key activities at Grantmakers In Aging's (GIA) 2011 Annual Conference in Washington. GIA is a membership organization made up of funders to promote and strengthen grantmaking for an aging society. More than 200 philanthropic, nonprofit and government funders will gather over three days to attend workshops and to seek networking opportunities. Robert Wood Johnson Foundation funding will support: (1) a registration and travel stipend for the winner of the John Feather Diversity Award, given each year to recognize individuals and organizations that embrace diversity as a fundamental element in all levels of their work in aging; (2) registration and travel stipends for American Society on Aging's New Ventures in Leadership program, the only program in the field designed to develop leaders of color committed to meeting the needs of older adults; and (3) GIA's Fellows Program, which supports junior academics from the Washington region who present their research and help develop the conference-summary document.
