Supporting consumer health advocates in promoting consumer engagement in the regulation and oversight of private health insurance markets
The Foundation's program, Consumer Voices for Coverage: Strengthening State Advocacy Networks to Expand Health Coverage, was designed to support state-based consumer health advocacy networks to increase their capacity to participate in health care reform efforts with key stakeholders, such as businesses, hospitals, insurers, providers and government officials. This grant provides support to Community Catalyst, the national program office for Consumer Voices for Coverage, to partner with the Center for Health Insurance Studies at the Georgetown University Health Policy Institute, to educate consumer advocates on the reforms in the private insurance market under the Affordable Care Act, and to build the capacity for consumer engagement in implementing those reforms. Deliverables will include fact sheets on key issues in the private insurance market, as well as individualized technical assistance for consumer advocates who are positioned to serve as conduits between consumers and the regulators and commissioners who will be implementing private-insurance reforms.
